Discrimination of the English language
When I was a kid I looked up to my dad. He was a hard working man, a man who left his country to seek new opportunities and despite being a husband, a new father and a hard worker he tried his best to learn english he was unsuccessful to master the language but he knew a decent amount to keep a conversation going. So this one day we were in a toy store. I remember the cold air hitting my skin due to the high end AC. They had it full blast that day. I wanted a toy but because I was a kid I didn’t really know how to tell the employee. Me and my dad went to tell the employee the toy I wanted. The employee couldn’t understand that because my dad didn’t speak the best English. The employee had a very annoyed face that made them go god do i really have to deal with this and even at the time i remember my dad wasn’t saying it in a wrong way he was just mixing up the toys name but the employee refused to listen or cooperate so they kept instigating saying sir i dont know and we dont have after a while he gave up and so me and my dad went home. As a kid I didn’t understand the moment too well but growing up it made me go, why did the employee say that and gets me annoyed because all through my life this has happened where people get annoyed at others for speaking differently or having an accent. This affected me in a good way because i dont judge others for their accent or how they speak and it only ever taught me to be a better person so in a way I’m really grateful for it. Thinking about it now i think we as a society should stop judging people for their accents because what if someone’s dying and because they dont speak english well they don’t know how to ask for help properly so many people would just ignore them so i think we as a society need to stop judging others for their accents and cooperate with each other no matter what. In the end of the day some of us were blessed to have learned the english language by going to school and having many people in our lives how speak it while sadly others just never had that same blessing so in life there’s many things that some of us take for granted and we should appreciate everything that’s given to us.
